Fireweed: A-Live Sound
A 1.5 week gentle intensive to build a foundation for live sound in small capacities. From poetry and acoustic artists, to small bands - put what you learn from Jay (they/them) into practice with a show at the end of the program. With more than a decade of experience and openness to teach, Jay would love to share the knowledge they’ve gathered. They will touch on setting up sound systems, mic techniques, and live mixing.

Fireweed: Grassroot Event Organizing
A four session intensive to build the foundation for small-scale event organizing. We will learn the basic tools of event planning that can be applied to concerts, fundraisers, celebrations, poetry shows and more. We will discuss project timelines, budgets, basic sound set-ups and technical requirements. We will also chat about how to manage conflict, emotional regulation and team building. Facilitated by Vines Artistic Director Heather with some help from friends!

FACILITATOR BIOS
Jay Bagasbas (they/them) is a well seasoned live sound tech in the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. With a decade’s worth of experience, they enjoy nerding about sound/live shows and touring for anyone who’d love to listen. Their gigs range from corporate AV, to venues and festivals, to shows in public parks and libraries. As the Tech Director for Vines Art Festival, they serve their communities the way they know best thru sound and stage.
Heather Lamoureux lives on Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories, where she is the Artistic Director at Vines Art Society. Heather is committed to her responsibility to nurture artists, imagine and co-create creative projects, and pull people together. Her work is shaped by her training in somatic therapy, involvement in land-based community projects, gardening, supporting resistance, sovereignty, and water protection work, and many generous stories and chats. In the past, she has worked for Raven Spirit Dance, PuSh International Arts Festival, the Firehall Arts Centre, and facilitated movement classes for elders and youth. She loves to garden, hang out by a river, and eat good food.
